Pictures of Children in
Nepal 118林炫妃
Last Saturday, when I was reading an article, I saw some pictures that
really touched my heart- photos of children in
Nepal. They are so different from us. The differences aren’t just between the
clothes they wear, the environments they live in or the faces they have. It’s
the attitudes.
Children in Taiwan live in good communities and comfortable
houses. They have families and friends who love them and governments who take
care of them. However, children growing up in the wonderful social background
keep a kind of bad attitude, like being rude and impolite, and some children in
Taiwan waste things easily.
Children in Nepal are different. They don’t look rich, but
happy. Many of them are in poor situations. Some have no parents and families,
some don’t have enough water and food, and others hardly have chances to get
good medical cares. But even in miserable environments, I can find smiles on
their cute faces. They are positive to face problems.
When someone cares about children in Nepal, they appear
thankful and satisfied. Compare with them, children in Taiwan shouldn’t
complain about the food, the houses, the teachers and the cares from other
people. After seeing the photos, I am grateful that I live in Taiwan, a country
with good governments, a place where friends and relatives who love me so much.
I’m living a happy life, I need to be thankful!
Making Friends From Abroad 208 陳昱融
Making friends from abroad was really a
special experience for me, and I learned a lot this time.
The teachers trained us a lot about many
international manners, the skills of communication, and how to get along well
with our foreign partners. I practiced these skills very often because I wanted
to do my best for this activity. But on the day we meet the students and
teachers from Sinseo Middle School, I was too nervous to speak English well, when
my Korean partner, Jenny, looked at me confusedly, I tried to say something
that I’ve learned. However, I stammered. How shamefacedly! I always want to
laugh when I recall about this funny incident.
Jenny is really a cute girl, she likes smiling.
She’s humorous and outgoing. I’m sure that I had a great time with her. We
visited many classrooms and offices in school. I brought her to join our class,
too. All my classmates and I felt really happy to attend classes with Jenny. After
lunch, all penguin students and the students from Sinseo Middle School played a
big game, “Build a Castle”, together. Although we didn’t win the first place,
we had much fun.
After school, my parents picked us up and had dinner with her at a Japanese
restaurant. My parents and I asked Jenny about the weather, culture, and the school
life in Korea. We also told her a lot of things about Taiwan. All of us enjoyed
the meal. We exchanged our gifts at home, I gave her bird wind chimes, and she
gave a bottle of peach-flavored hand cream and a box of chocolate pie. Because she
is interested in Chinese food, we had steam dumplings for night snack before we
slept. It was the most awesome day ever!
Thanks for my Penguin teachers that they
always give me many good chances to do something different, and help me a lot! I’m
a lucky person that I can make a foreign friend. Besides, I think I am a happy
student that I can learn English in Penguin Family!
I Was In Guilin(桂林) in 2012 210 陳羿諠
I
was very surprised when I knew that my family would take me to Guilin, China.
It was the first time I didn’t stay in Taiwan but go abroad during Chinese New
Year. It was a little bit windy. My family and neighbors
took a taxi to Taiwan High Speed Rail Station in Zuoying. Time to go! We took the High Speed Rail to Taoyuan and took a shuttle bus to Taoyuan International Airport
for our plane to Hong Kong where we transferred to Guilin Liang Jiang International
Airport(桂林兩江國際機場).
Wow! There are mountains everywhere
in Guilin City. Now I know why Guilin is the city of mountains. After dinner,
we traveled Lijiang River(灕江), Peach
Blossom River(桃花江), Guihu(桂湖), Rong Lake(榕湖), Mulong Lake(木龍湖),and Cedar Lake(衫湖) by boat. It
was so beautiful that everyone on the boat was extremely quiet. The first night
in Guilin was amazing. However, my friend, Emily and I did something stupid. We
locked our bathroom door without keys on us! How crazy we were! Until the hotel
waiter fixed the door, Emily and I went to bed with one hundred percent tire
and shame...
The next day, we took a cruise
to Lijiang River(灕江). It was very cold and windy, but the scenery there is
still wonderful. Later, we were here in Yangshuo. We went shopping at West
Street. I bought an angry bird doll. It’s so cute! The third day, we traveled
three Stalactites
Caves: Silver Cave(銀子岩), Tiangong Cave(天宮岩), and Feng Yu Cave(豐魚岩). Those are
all famous Stalactites Caves. They are all uncanny workmanship! My favorite is Tiangong Cave(天宮岩), because its feature is to watch the stalactites’ reflection in the water. The reflections are as beautiful
as the real stalactites, no, much beautiful than the real one!
We
went to watch Impression
Liu San Jie(印象劉三姐). It’s a spectacular
show. It was a pity that the weather was so freezing that I couldn’t
pay attention to the show. We traveled a lot of places in
the five days we stayed in Guilin. Everything is new to me and every experience
is also precious to me. If I have a chance, I really want to come back here
another day.
A Wonderful Day 216黃中盈
We had such an exciting day at school! Special
visitors from Korea came to our school! All of the students really looked
forward to seeing them! My partner is a pretty and nice girl whose name is Ji-Won.
Ji-Won likes meeting my classmates
and getting along with them, too. In my classroom, my classmates asked her
lots of questions about Korean singers and actors. Besides, many of my
classmates would like to take pictures with her. She also sent us some small
gifts that had something to do with Korea. And we played an exciting game and
played basketball together. Ji- Won is excellent at sports. I think she
can beat the boys!
After school, we had dinner at
McDonald's. Was that a good idea? Yes, it really was. We chatted with each
other and talked about many differences between Korea and Taiwan. After dinner,
we went to Rueifong Night Market(瑞豐夜市) . We tasted pearl milk tea and chicken-fried steak(香雞排). She also tried stinky tofu, but her face showed
that it didn’t taste delicious to her. We played some fun games and won several
small things, including a big white bear, a cute little mirror and a small hanging dog ornament! She also bought some
cute bow barrettes for her sister. The next morning, when we arrived at the
hotel, we all felt sad because we had to say goodbye to each other. She gave me
a pencil case with traditional Korean patterns. It’s so beautiful!
I think this was a very impressive experience that I have never had.
There was a wonderful day with a friendly Korean girl. I miss her so much;
therefore, I hope I can keep in touch with her in the future.
An unforgettable experience with Korean students 227 李欣
Our school and Sinseo Middle School in Korea are sister schools. Therefore, the teachers and students from Sinseo Middle School visit our school every year. It was my honor to be one of the members in the reception team. Furthermore, Angel Regina and I were assigned to introduce Yangming Junior High School for them when they came here. It took us much time to prepare the presentation. We spent more than two weeks collecting information about Yangming, Kaohsiung, and Taiwan, making PowerPoint and practicing our speech many times. On that day, I was not only excited but also nervous. When we showed our PowerPoint and presented it to them, I was so proud that everyone paid attention to our presentation. Eric’s Korean partner, Jake, told me that we did a good job.
After that, we took a walk in the campus. They
were amazed at thousands of students and beautiful buildings. Jake said that
Yangming Junior High School was like a museum. There are too many things he
wants to see!
Besides
our campus, the performances of Chinese Orchestra and String Orchestra also impressed
them. We talked about our cultures to each other when walking in the campus. We
realized that our cultures are actually familiar. We have many things in
common, for example, all of our students have many tests every day and have to
go to cram school after class. We all have to study harder and harder.
In the afternoon, we played an exciting game, “Build
a Dream Castle,” with them together. Everyone has to speak English in this
game; therefore, we talked with each other in English during the game. It is
very interesting to everyone. At last, our team won the sixth place and got drinks
as award.
At night, we had a big dinner in Eric’s house. Eric’s
mom is very considerate because she prepared many Korean dishes for us.
Everyone enjoyed the delicious dinner and had a good time.
After dinner, we went to Lio Hu Night Market.
There isn’t any night market in Korean, so they were very excited and curious.
They bought some cute things but they didn’t eat any food. They were so full that
they couldn’t eat anything.
And then we went to Love River. The night views
there were spectacular. We were so lucky to watch the firework. They all
enjoyed the sight and took a lot of pictures. In addition, we even took the Love
Boat to look around the river. On the boat, we shared our life experiences and
became good friends. We had to go home although everyone still wanted to stay
here and go to more famous places.
I was really delighted to have this opportunity
to spend all day getting along with Korean students. That makes me know more
about their country and cultures. Above all, I make new friends from abroad. I hope
I can stay in touch with them and don’t forget this wonderful experience in my
life!
